Olivia’s New Bike

Did you know one of my favorite things in the whole world is riding my bike? I’ve loved riding ever since I first learned how to ride on my red Strawberry Shortcake bike with the banana seat. Over the last couple of years, it’s been difficult for us to ride bikes as a family. Olivia is nowhere near being able to ride a bike on her own and was getting way too big and mature for the pull-behind trailer. When we pulled the trailer out this spring, and put Olivia in it, we quickly realized we needed a new plan. She was totally cramped in there and it was no longer enjoyable. Plus, pulling her was super hard! Matt went on one of his famous Internet searches (he can find anything) and found the Buddy Bike.

It seemed like a perfect fit for us. Only problem? They cost $2000 brand new. A little over our budget. Matt searched again for used bikes and found one in Georgia, gently used, that was offered for $500. Shipping was $400. So we decided to pick it up on our way to Myrtle Beach. It added about 6 extra hours to our drive time, but was definitely worth it to save the shipping costs.

It has been, hands down, the best thing we’ve ever purchased. We go on family bike rides every night and each time we remark that it was the best $500 we ever spent. The best news? Olivia LOVES it. She gets on by herself, can go for 40+ minute bike rides and has a smile in her face the whole time. I can tell that she finally feels like she’s a true part of our family bike ride. She waves at everyone we pass and loves being on the same level as her brothers. She hasn’t used the pedals yet, but for right now we are just enjoying being able to experience something so normal that has eluded us for so many years. For our family, THAT it priceless.
