The boys and I made a cake for their Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet. This year’s theme was movies and, since I’m no cake decorator, we went for something easy. Olivia’s currently very obsessed with Wreck It Ralph so we made a Venellope Von Schweetz cake. It was delicious (thank you Pinterest for the recipe) and cute and won 2nd place! The boys were very excited.
At the banquet, Gabe officially became a Boy Scout. He is very excited to go on campouts and work towards his Eagle Badge. (For the record, we’re hoping to change from within and get them to finally officially allow gay and lesbian parents participate.)
Olivia didn’t cry at all at camp this week…and she didn’t call anyone ugly, stupid or a jerk! Yahoo for progress!
Matthew jumped off the diving board at swimming lessons into 13 feet deep water all by himself. I could not believe it! Matthew has always been afraid of water and especially deep water. For him to jump in alone and swim to the side when he knew how deep it was amazed me!
Each night this week, when it’s time to go to bed, I find not one but BOTH of my boys in their beds reading. Matthew has always been a great reader but hasn’t found anything that he likes and that he would read without me begging. He picked up one of Gabe’s copies of Diary of a Wimpy Kid and he hasn’t stopped reading. I am thrilled!!! Last night he said, “Mom, I can’t stop reading this. It’s so hilarious! Look how far I am!”
Olivia and I stopped at the library on Tuesday and she, of course, took her pal Fix it Felix from the Wreck It Ralph movie. On the way out, she opened the door by herself and she said “High Four Felix!” because he looks like he only has four fingers. I started laughing and she said “You’re going to have to tell your husband about that one!”
I saw a former student (like from about 12-15 years ago) at my kids’ school this week. She remembered me, came up and gave me a hug and we caught up on her life. It’s so nice to be remembered by students!
I beat one of my dear friends at Ruzzle!!! Only once but she’s impossible to beat. There may or may not have been an air fist pump and a “YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!” involved. Do you play Ruzzle? Find me elastamom417.
What made you happy this week?
