***Linking up with MamaKat today: 2.) 5 Random facts about you and your family. (inspired by Nice Girl Notes)***
(I tried to get Matt to write a “Dear Women” post…but he wasn’t up for it.)
You all know we love each other and spend lots o’ time together…so here are 5 things maybe you didn’t know…
1.) We love to play games. Some of our favorites are Spot It, Bananagrams, Phase 10, Spinner and Clue. When we go camping, and after dinner in the winter, you can almost always find us playing games.
2.) We love to travel. As a family, we’ve been to Wisconsin Dells, Chicago, upstate New York, Maine twice, Kentucky horse park, Disney World and other parts of Florida twice, Washington D.C., Colorado, the Badlands in South Dakota, northern Michigan, Vermont and the west coast of Michigan and all over Ohio. We’ve done 99% of it in our travel trailer camper.
3.) We love movies and TV. (Hey, we also love reading.) We watch The Middle and Modern Family and America’s Got Talent together. We’re working our way through Matt and my’s favorite pre-teen movies. (What were your favorite movies when you were a pre-teen? We need ideas.) Last Friday, Matt suggested Commando with Sylvester Stallone and, forgetting to look at what it was rated, we watched it. And turned it off after 10 minutes and 20 cases of the M-Fer expletive. (FYI: It’s a family joke that when you watch a movie with Matt’s parents, it’s either super boring or highly inappropriate. So he comes by it naturally.)
4.) We enjoy being outside. Hiking, biking, walking, you name it! One of our favorite things to do is to go to the zoo in the winter when it’s freezing. No one’s there!! We come from sturdy German stock, so we’re all set.
5.) We are very close with our extended family. My Mom is the 6th member of our family for sure. She lives about 7 minutes away. Matt’s parents live right across the street. His sister and her family live one street over. My sister used to live right around the corner but now lives 30 minutes away. We see them often and I couldn’t be happier. I always wanted my grandma and aunts and uncles and cousins close by.
Well, did you learn something new? What’s a random fact about your family that you’d like to share?
How great! I did this one as well.
What a great family picture! I am new to Mama Kat’s writing workshop. We love board games as well – our favorites are Apples to Apples, Scene It and Monopoly.
That’s so nice that you live close to your family! My family is scattered, so we have to plan our get togethers. So we have road trips to see family, and that’s something we love to do!
Your family sounds like a lot of fun. Thank you for letting us be apart of us via your blog. I think you should point that travel trailer towards Washington one of these summers. At least get as far as Yellowstone… we’ll meet you there.
I’m in Wisconsin so we’ve gone to the Dells a lot! A fav preteen movie of mine….Goonies! Oh and the Breakfast Club!

We love Catch Phrase, and hope to someday have a great list like yours of amazing places we’ve traveled with our girls. Favorite pre-teen movies: My Girl, Labyrinth, & ET.
“the Princess Bride” might be a great movie to watch with your children 🙂
I’m guessing you’ve watched it as a family already.
Random fact about my family?
We have 1980s New Wave dance parties- just the four if us: my husband, me and our 21 month old twins 🙂
Agree with Goonies as mentioned above…have you guys watched Short Circuit as a family? We watched it on Netflix and my kids laughed hysterically through the whole thing!
We watched Gremlins this weekend with the boys. I forgot how crazy and stupid it is. One of my all time favorites!!! The boys loved it 🙂
