Happy 2013!

So how was your holiday? I’m back to work today and back to blogging! I missed all of you even though it was nice to have a break.

Our holidays were wonderful…except for the fact that the stomach flu invaded our house right in time for Christmas. Matthew spent Christmas Eve and Day sitting on the toilet while simultaneously having his head in a bucket. Fun times. He missed the whole holiday! Olivia got it the day after Christmas but hers was more fever and aches. She was so hot she could have fried an egg on her head! So far Gabe didn’t get it…and I managed to make it until yesterday before I got it. Bummer, huh? I was glad it at least happened while we were off work and school and could spend the day in our jammies.

Olivia has been spending her days in her jammies, playing with her new stuffed animal friends and watching new movies on her new flat screen in her bedroom. (Yes, she’s spoiled. She’s worth it. 😉 ) I think she’s watched Rudolph 20 times over break. It’s so cute how she rounds up Rudolph, Clarice, Hermie, Sam the Snowman and the Abominable Snowman, snuggles up with them in her bed and watches the show. It’s the cutest. One day, she and I were cuddling and I was reading my Kindle and she points to the word “little” and says “Little!”. Then she pointed at to, you, she, we, bubble, looked and a slew of other words and read them to me! No context, no pictures, not separated, just plain old reading. It was amazing. I can’t help thinking about all of those doctors that were such extreme naysayers and said she wouldn’t do anything, she would stop progressing, don’t expect much. I’d just love for them to see her now.

Gabe has been glued to his new xbox. I think he’ll have to have the controller surgically removed from his hand when school starts up again. Have you heard of Minecraft? Apparently it’s the pre-teen boys’ equivalent to One Direction. We’ve been playing board games like nobody’s business too so I’m not too worried. It amazes me that he continues to surprise me with his kindness and love towards his family. When Matthew and Liv were sick, he was so upset because he felt so bad for them. When I started feeling crummy, he made Olivia’s bed and cleaned up her room for me. He is truly one-of-a-kind.

Matthew, poor guy, has just been miserable most of break. He started to feel back to normal on New Year’s Eve. He’s catching up on video games for the time being. It was so sad to see him be so sick. He doesn’t have any extra weight on his body so being sick for almost a week really took its toll. I was worried he would end up in the hospital as he didn’t keep anything down for almost 4 days. Not even water! The sweetest thing was he kept apologizing for the mess. He hates messiness…and felt bad that I had to clean it up. So sweet. I was so relieved when he finally kept down a popsicle!!!

Matt has been working constantly over his break, saving up money to go on a trip with his buddies for one of his best friend’s bachelor party in March. He can’t sit still anyway so I’m glad he’s able to work to save for something just for him.

I read a lot of books (post coming soon!), did a lot of snuggling and stayed in my brand new jammies most of the day. It was not the break I was hoping for because of the flu, but it was still great!

Happy New Year to you all!!!

  7. Do you guys use Storia from Scholastic for your iPad? I bet Liv would love it – especially if she’s sight reading like that! So sorry Matty was sick 😦 We were going to call to have him over and then decided to keep the germs out – Keegan was sick right before Christmas. We’ll have to play again very soon!!! Glad your holiday was joyous. Looking forward to a great 2013 and wishing you the best year yet!
