On This Day

On this day…

She says…

I’m super smart, aren’t I Mama?
You’re the best chef in the whole world!
I love you, Mama.

And she rests her sweet little head on my chest, kisses my cheek and holds my hand. I tuck her in, I tuck her stuffed friend in, I kiss her and kiss her and kiss her and tell her I’m the luckiest Mama in the whole wide world. She drifts off with a smile on her face.

On this day…

He tells me endless stories about the awesome recess soccer game, his boring teacher, the math test he aced.

He laughs at my jokes, he seeks out my company.

He asks me to scratch his back and we swap stories about our days and what we have planned tomorrow.

He lets me kiss his forehead, sometimes his lips and still gives me a giant hug. We end this day, and every day, with a heartfelt I love you.

On this day…

He makes me laugh at least a million times.
He smiles like there’s not a care in the world.
He calls me “MomMom” and jumps into my arms when he gets home from school.
He needs me to tuck him in, to find his blankie and his favorite stuffed animal and kiss and hug him goodnight.

He says I love you, MomMom and drifts off to sleep content.

On this day…

He brings me my coffee made just the way I like it.
He kisses me goodbye and says “Later?” and I know what that means.
He texts me to let me know he’s thinking of me.
He joins us for dinner and plays Rummy with the boys and me.

On this day, and every day, he shows me he loves me.

On this day, I didn’t just wander through my day, I felt it. I was there. I felt each of them and all of their goodness and let it wash over me.

On this day, life is good.
