Mainely Great Part 1

I’m back…I hope you missed me!!! I missed you all very much. I hope I won’t bore you over the next few days as I share our Maine and Vermont vacation. It was wonderful.

We had been to Maine in 2003 for a brief visit. All we did on that trip was going to the ocean for two days. We really didn’t see the state at all. This time we did and it is gorgeous. I don’t know what I was expecting but it did not look like I expected. It was very wilderness-like and rocky and just plain beautiful. It wasn’t a crazy-go-go-go vacation. It was a relax and enjoy the view vacation. Well, relax as much as you can with three kids and two dogs in a travel trailer.

After driving for three days and covering over 1100 miles, we weren’t exactly ready to get back in the car. But we did it anyway. The first day we just wanted to get a lay of the land. We visited Acadia for the first time and drove all the way to the top of Cadillac Mountain. Stunning is about the best I can describe it. Absolutely stunning.

The kids loved the rocks. They were jumping and running and climbing…and taking in the view. They are at the perfect age where they are in awe of the beauty and they appreciate it. I loved watching the boys take off together and then just sit and watch the view and chat. The terrain was a little tricky for Olivia, but Matt was up to the on-his-shoulders challenge.

On our way down from the summit, we made a stop at Sand Beach. It’s a lovely little beach where you can enjoy the ocean…if you’re ok with 55 degree water. My feet hurt just standing on the wet sand it was so chilly!!! But of course the kids went in. You have to get in the ocean, right?

After that we headed downtown to check out Bar Harbor, or Baa Habaah as we called it, and checked out the ice cream offerings.

We couldn’t wait to keep exploring and seeing what else this gorgeous city had to offer.
