Welcome to Mommy Tip Monday! If you have a tip to share, email me and I’ll put it on!
Summer is here for the kids in 2 days! Wine? Check! Activities planned? Check! Sanity? Check for now! I felt like I needed a plan for some sort of reward system for exercise, practicing piano and reading/schoolwork. Yes, we still do schoolwork over the summer. I’m a teacher and can promise you that it really helps them maintain their knowledge!! We shoot for 4-5 times a week of concentrated school activities—math, writing, etc. But…I needed a reward system.
Introducing Summer Daddy Dollars!!! I talked my plan over with the kids and they thought it sounded like a great idea. I will give them $1 Daddy Dollar for every 15 minutes of exercise, reading or schoolwork. Gabe will get $1 for every 10 minutes of piano practice too. Then they can trade them in for the usual rewards of sleepovers, bike rides, movies, etc.
I also give the kids 12 tickets a week for the computer, video games and TV. Each ticket is worth 15 minutes. When they’re gone, they’re gone and no more media!! However, if they have extra left over at the end of the week, they can trade them for dollars. I just keep a box for each child where they keep their dollars and tickets.
Sounds good to me…how about you?
Happy Summer!!
Sounds like your kids are gearing up for a great summer! We’re still in school – for another week! Woo hoo. đ
I like it!! I wish I had older kids right now so I could do this with them for the summer too. Sounds fun, structured, and organized. I’ll certainly bank the idea in my memory. đ
Cute idea!
That’s a great idea, Elastamom! Thank you for sharing it.
Sounds great.
I am lovin’ that ticket idea!!!!
You are so organized! Can you come run my house for the summer?
Wow. Super organized. I’m with Gibby. Can you come over here and set us straight?
